Hi Mate, There is not a lot of help I can give you in regards to freshwater fishing in the Melbourne area. There are carp in South Australia (Adelaide area) but that will be a long run for you. Mainly chub, bream and pike, though there will also be pieces on carp, barbel and trout.

Hello Chevin - your name was given to me on the Freshwater Chat Forum. It's because you are ex-Uk that your name came up. I'm from the UK and am here for 3 years. I'm based in SE about 1 hours drive from Melbourne. I'm a coarse fisherman - like to catch anything as long as it's good sport. Used to go out every w/e in Uk but am going nuts here as I haven't got a clue as to what's out there. Don't really have an interest in sea fishing or fishing from a boat. You know how we fish in the UK and that's what I'm looking for. I know the fish won't be the same but I'd kill for a weekend of simple fishing from a bank. Can you help please? Only us fishermen understand the frustration of not being able to enjoy getting out and fishing for a few hours, so any help or suggestions as to where to start would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah Red Claw are a freshwater crayfish. Normally found in Rivers, Creeks and Dams over here. They are quite good eating as well.

Not wanting to show my ignorance on line, what is a redclaw? Is that the name for the freshwater signal crayfish?
